LEXINGTON, KY (March 10, 2025) –– Popular comedian turned actor Eddie Griffin, is coming to Lexington Opera House on Sunday, June 22, 2025. Honored by Comedy Central as one of the Top 100 Greatest Stand-Up Comedians of All Time, Eddie Griffin is sure to deliver a fantastic show. With a career spanning over 50 films and countless television appearances, Eddie has proven his versatility as both a comedian and actor, making this live performance a must-see.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Eddie was voted class clown three years in a row in high school. His first love was always dance, and by the young age of 16, he opened his own dance studio and was choreographing the Kansas City Chiefs’ half-time shows. But all of that would soon change when one night his cousin dared him to go on stage at the local comedy club, Sanford and Sons, where he was told to do 3 minutes. He performed off-the-cuff for 45 minutes successfully. It was then that Griffin purchased a one-way ticket to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming a stand-up. Eddie’s comedy specials have been a major part of his legacy, with his most recent special, Undeniable, premiering on Showtime in 2017 to rave reviews.
His acting career spans numerous memorable roles, such as in The Last Boy Scout (1991), Coneheads (1993), Jason’s Lyric (1994), and Malcolm and Eddie (1996-2000), for which role he was nominated (1996) and won (2000) the NAACP Image Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. Beyond sitcoms, Eddie showcased his dramatic range in films like John Q (2002), starring alongside Denzel Washington, and in Undercover Brother (2002), where he played the role of Anton Jackson. His versatility as an actor earned him respect in both comedic and dramatic roles. He also had starring roles in Armageddon (1998), Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (1999), and Scary Movie 3 (2003), adding to his wide-ranging filmography.
Tickets will be available for purchase starting at 10 A.M. on Friday, March 14 at ticketmaster.com, lexingtonoperahouse.com, or in person at the Central Bank Center Box Office from 12-4 P.M. on Wednesdays and Fridays.
